CREATIVE ACTIVITIES

Afternoon Craft Group

When: 1.00pm Wednesday (during the school term)
Cost: $3.00 per session (includes afternoon tea)

Friendship, fellowship and sharing are the core business of the group. Everyone is welcome – whether they are a beginner or are skilled at a craft.

Each member brings along their own, particular craft and works in a relaxed, friendly group. It is a pleasure to see skill develop and confidence grow as members share their expertise with each other.

Instruction is available in Patchwork, Quilting, Traditional Embroidery, Hardanger Embroidery, Knitting, Crochet, and Card making. We like to have suggestions for new/different crafts and, if necessary, will try to source an instructor.

In November each year, in conjunction with the Painting groups, members have the opportunity to exhibit some of their work.

Lynne Pullman coordinates Afternoon Craft.

Morning Craft & Friendship Group

When: 9.30am Wednesday (during the school term)
Cost: $3.00 per session + equipment

We follow a program each term where a variety of crafts are presented. Each member has the choice of following the program, bringing their own craft, or playing cards or scrabble. We like to have suggestions for craft activities from our members and encourage them to share their skills with the group.

Crafts offered include card making, crochet, knitting, patchwork, beading, and toy making.

We provide a crèche at a nominal fee (please let us know if you are interested in this service).

Jan Jones and Anna Kring lead the group.

Water Colour Painting Classes

When: Wednesday (joining with Craft during school terms)
Times: 10.00am – 12.00am & 1.00pm – 3.00pm

Between the morning and afternoon classes we now have 31 students (both are tight knit groups). The morning class only began a couple of years ago but are producing very good work. The afternoon class has been attending for 5 years with excellent art work achieved.

Each year an Art Display of all students work is hung creating a real sense of achievement and pride. Several pieces have been sold at each exhibition and the community also enjoys viewing their work.

Art Exhibitions

We are a well promoted and presented venue with some exhibitions having official openings by well-known members of the community. Usually we have a commitment to a charity or worthy cause i.e. Domestic Violence against Women.

Community Club @ The Corner

When: 7.30pm for 7.45pm start Tuesday (second of the month)

The Community Club @ The Corner was formerly known as the Greenfield Road Community Club (a sponsored outreach of the Seacombe Uniting Church).

The club was founded in 1996, when some Seacombe members realised, prayerfully, that a mixed social group was needed at the church. This dedicated group worked hard in developing a concept, which would include the wider community in the area, while still observing principles through example. The Club is thankful for their vision, because we have continued to enjoy the meetings, each other’s company and our innovative suppers. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Right from the outset, we have been registered with the Marion Council as a meeting place for people looking to mix with others in their area. It has always been the aim that the committee deals with the day-to-day business, BUT are always very open to suggestions — which do thankfully keep coming. If a donation to a cause is appropriate, we give as generously as we can, from our meeting by meeting gold coin donations.

Meetings are open to ourselves, friends and neighbours without obligation to attend regularly.
