Art Warm Up

To have fun and help you get comfortable creating something.

You will need: paper, pencil/texta/pen, still life set up (a set on objects placed next to each other).

1. Set up a still life display (can be any object from around you), or choose a photo to use.

2. Place pencil/texta/pen on your page. Do not lift it again until you are finished drawing.

3. Without looking at your page, start drawing what you see in front of you. Pay attention to lines, shadows and patterns.

hint: It’s ok if it looks nothing like your still life set up or photo.

Check out the video for an example of how to do it using a photo: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSL6dLTMw/

Theme: The Uniting Church Anniversary

The Uniting Church came in to being in 1977 when most congregations of the Methodist Church of Australasia, about two-thirds of the Presbyterian Church of Australia and almost all the churches of the Congregational Union of Australia joined together.

Knowing the history and traditions of the church are important. They help us understand where we have come from, how we have overcome challenges and how we have grown and changed.

In church and in life we also need space to move beyond just our history and traditions. To find new ways to understand God, new ways to connect with people, new ways to welcome and accept people, new ways to live out our faith and and new ways of doing church.

We see this this when we look at the history of art. Art styles and techniques have grown and changed over the years. Each styles learns from the styles that have come before, but also creates something new and different.

I would even suggest that art has grown to welcome and accept more people.

Lessons and tutorials are now available everywhere online for anyone.

We can also share art more easily, it’s not just in art galleries, we find art all over social media.

Every month there is new art trend on TikTok, and it’s art that you don’t need to be especially arty to be able to do.

That’s the kind of art we are doing tonight.
