Holy Saturday
Jesus’ Body is Placed in a Tomb

In the evening, Joseph of Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus went to Pilate and asked to take Jesus’ body. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in cloth and placed it in a tomb which had been carved from a rock. He then covered the entrance with a large stone.

Matthew 27:57-66

Read.

Holy Saturday was filled with waiting. In Jesus’ time it was the Sabbath and no work was allowed to be done. Jesus followers had to stop and wait for what was to come next, even if they were unsure what that was.

Waiting can be important. It can be intentional waiting, where we are taking time to rest or heal or to seek further direction before moving forward. Or forced waiting, when we are required to be patient, as there is a barrier to us moving forward. Both types of waiting can help us take time to think, reflect and stop in a way we might not always make time for. Waiting also allows us to take space to listen to what God might be saying to us.

Think About.

Think about times when you have had to wait in your life. What are things you have learnt and discovered about yourself or ways you have grown? Think about times where it might be worth taking intentional time to wait and listen to God before moving forward.

Prayer.

God, even in the stillness of waiting you are with us. We pray for your healing presence and your guidance on how to move forward. Amen.
